Junior Mechanical Engineer – Port Elizabeth

An exciting opportunity is available for a Junior Mechanical Engineer to join a well-established engineering and contracting company based in Port Elizabeth.

This role is ideal for a motivated graduate with a strong foundation in mechanical engineering principles, and a keen interest in thermodynamics and electro-mechanical systems. The successful candidate will work as part of a multidisciplinary project team and gain valuable exposure to end-to-end engineering projects.

The business operates as a design-and-supply contractor, with all engineering completed in-house. This provides a unique opportunity to be involved in projects from initial design through to commissioning and final handover, offering excellent hands-on experience within the built environment.

The company specialises in the agricultural and cold storage sectors and is recognised as an innovator and leader within its field.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Engineers and Draughtsmen with system design and modelling using CAD and Revit
  • Review, detail and annotate engineering drawings
  • Compile accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs) from construction drawings
  • Prepare detailed BOMs for tender submissions
  • Develop technical solutions aligned to client requirements
  • Liaise closely with site teams to incorporate site conditions into designs
  • Track and monitor project costs
  • Ensure compliance with company standards, industry regulations and safety requirements
  • Maintain project records and compile technical documentation
  • Travel to project sites when required (locally and within Africa)

Qualifications & Skills

  • BEng or BSc in Mechanical Engineering
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
  • Passion for new technology and innovation
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • Basic project management capability
  • Good electrical knowledge
  • Strong interest in Thermodynamics, Fluid Mechanics and Heat Transfer systems
